Let’s now move one on, and let’s raise a question – does the planet have enough resources to feed the population? The food industry is not so simple. Since the 18th century, people have been thinking about over-population and if it will be possible to feed the world’s population. The good news is that yes, we have enough food, but we have the consumption problem again. Each year, we raise the average calories consumption – people eat more and more. In the 20th century, industrially developed countries could increase food production trice thanks to synthetic fertilizers, farm machinery, and a high level of process automation. Thanks to the invention of shipping containers and logistics technologies, the food price fell thirty times. These days much more people in the world are dying from obesity than from hunger. Suddenly, this overconsumption of calories is terrible not only for fat people but this behavior has a significant impact on the environment around us. Imagine if everyone would eat only the necessary calories that their organism needs; our planet would feed one more billion people without any additional resources production.

Consumption of Food

Based on the center of space flights NASA, humans maintain almost all available land with the necessary parameters and potential for farming machinery. Some countries already consume all available land in their countries and rent additional areas in different places of the world to grow the produce. After the harvest, they are exporting it back to their market. And with the existing trends, the situation will get worse, but there is one paradox. Even though the 8 billion civilization will increase by another 2 billion during the next generation, the population is getting better. You would think that with the growing population, our situation should get worse, but it’s not the case. Instead of less, we are getting more resources. How is it possible? The population is growing, but along it is getting more prosperous. We live much better than we lived when there were 50% less of people. It’s a paradox that breaks the logic, and often it looks like scientists who are talking about overpopulation lie to us. I want to remind you that ever since 1700, many educated people have highlighted over-population and related problems. First, they think that we remarkably grow and will damage ourselves when we reach 4 billion thresholds. Then, they were afraid of the number of 6 billion. These days, we are again talking about the topic with a population of 8 billion.

Instead of world hunger and poverty, the volume of global food production increased. The availability of resources for every person is bigger than before. On average, now we live significantly better than before. How is it possible? Why is it going totally against the prognosis? It’s simple. Prediction of the past could not forecast technological innovations and always think about the technology as a constant parameter. But technologies help us to cross the border of maximal levels of planet production capability. During the year, thanks to technologies, we were able to increase planet productivity significantly. There is no doubt that the same as we did last year, we will prolong to do in the future and improve the planet’s productivity performance even twice.
