One of the first western scientists who started seriously analyzing sound waves was Ernst Chladni in the 18th century. He found that when he sprinkles the sand on the metallic desk and creates vibrations with the violin fiddlestick, the sand automatically organizes itself into concrete geometrics forms. Different vibrations created different forms. Later, Chladni developed the catalog of these figures.
We can easily find many of them in nature, like, for example, the armor of the turtle or pictures on the skin of other animals. The most common and easier to find is on reptiles. Later, in 1960 the American writer Han Jenny extended Chladni’s experiments by using different substances instead of sand and electronic generation of various sound waves.
When you push the simple sinusoid through the plate with water, you will see the waves visualized directly on the water.
With different frequencies, you will see different forms. So higher is the frequency, more complicated forms you can get visualized on the water. By changing only one small parameter as frequency, you are getting significantly different forms.
Water, in general, is a very mystic substance that well amenable to outer impact. Water can receive and absorb the vibration thanks to its high resonance capacities, sensitivity, and inner readiness to resonance. Water naturally reacts to every type of sound wave. Vibrations of water and earth create the extreme mass of plants and animals. Such experiments show that adding a simple addition creates structures with characteristics that look like an alive organism. It’s visible, it’s moving and changing the form. Maybe, by doing this experiment, we can physically see the basic life principles. Isn’t it?
