Historically, the outstanding role of cities in the spatial organization of the state is to create reference points for the spatial development of the economy. Why do businesses and society need smart cities? It’s about transformation and sustainability. A smart city is a city that uses technology to improve and transform the lives of its citizens and the environment while reducing the digital divide and allowing businesses to thrive and innovate. It is the idea of inclusiveness, not separation, a collaboration between citizens and the public and private sectors for sustainable transformation and growth.

All existing concepts and definitions of the smart city emphasize different aspects of the functioning of the urban ecosystem, focusing on the development of information technology, transportation, and telecommunications infrastructure. Smart city systems provide collection, storage, and processing of received data. It allows forecasting the development of situations and behavior of individual infrastructure objects, technical systems, and the city in general as a global distributed multi-level system. Solutions based on the application of information technologies aimed at increasing economic efficiency and the standard of living of citizens with minimum consumption of resources and harm to the environment will be essential for the life support of megacities.

The current phenomenon of technological development in the form of digital expansion gives us an understanding of digitalization. In this case, we are witnessing the spread of the influence of digitally transformed data over the entire area of traditional lifestyles, economic relations, the structural architecture of civilization, etc. In a relatively short time compared to humankind’s existence, the conventional static type of worldview has been almost entirely replaced by a more dynamic, multidimensional one. There has been fantastic progress in artificial intelligence, human-computer integration, and digitalization, which leads to singularity. The amplification of intelligence in digital format can lead to strong positive feedback. In a relatively short period of time, the existing world will be more transformed than we can imagine. That is, the more intelligent systems once created by humans will make even better systems.
