Anarchism means the absence of power as a source of violence, the domination of man by force foreign to him – the state. The state is also an organization of people, but of those people who, to the detriment of all other members of society, have appropriated to themselves the exclusive right to power.
The term “anarchism,” however, is often misused in an overly expansive way. All the principles of anarchism fit into the triad of the Great French Revolution as liberty, equality, and fraternity. However, although the French Revolution proclaimed this, the reality of same modern France is fundamentally different from the content of the proclaimed principles.
Modern society believes that above all, there is “freedom from”, and its main content is freedom from the restrictions of entrepreneurship. It asserts that equality is first of all equality before the law and nothing more, while fraternity is something completely abstract. After all, modern society is based on competition, and if one man is a competitor to another, he can hardly be called a brother. The idea of anarchism has a clear idea of positive freedom – “freedom for”. It is freedom of self-realization – the possibility for a person to realize his inner potential, which is in him, without external constraints. It is the freedom to build one’s own life in harmony with similarly free individuals.
For the anarchist, freedom is not a thing that ends where the freedom of another begins. Most anarchists are radical opponents of both the market economy on the one hand and central planning on the other. Anarchism assumes an entirely different principle of economy, production, and satisfaction of needs. The same two principles of self-government work: the autonomy of the “grassroots” community and federalism. If the community can produce a product for its consumption by its means, it must do so without anyone else’s interference.

Founded in 1971, Freetown Christiania is one of the few anarchist communities still active today. Freetown Christiania, also known as Christiania (Danish: Fristaden Christiania or Staden), is an intentional community and commune of about 1,000 residents, covering 7.7 hectares in the borough of Christianshavn in the Danish capital city of Copenhagen.
It is also noteworthy that it has managed to remain autonomous for more than 40 years. The town was founded by hippie settlers in Danish Copenhagen in abandoned military barracks. Private property is forbidden in the community (for example, autonomous residents cannot own personal cars). At the same time, the anarchist community has a number of laws designed to eliminate violence and crime. In 2012, the government agreed to sell the land it occupied to the community.
