Air Quality Alert
Goals
Air Pollution Alerts – To provide actionable information about poor air quality
Project
In conjunction with King’s College London, the City of London will administration will continuously monitor the quality of the air in the city and warn citizens about poor air quality. If there is forecasts of high levels of air pollution, the city’s television screens and 2,500 information panels will display warnings
2,500 bus stops equipped with information panels are involved in the project

There are different types of air quality alerts that exist to warn people about the presence of high levels of air pollution. Here are some of the most common types:
- Air Quality Index (AQI) Alerts: AQI is a measure of how polluted the air is. AQI alerts are issued by environmental agencies to notify the public when the AQI reaches unhealthy levels.
- Ozone Action Day Alerts: These alerts are issued during hot summer days when the concentration of ground-level ozone is expected to be high. The purpose of the alert is to encourage people to reduce their emissions of pollutants that contribute to ozone formation.
- Particulate Matter (PM) Alerts: PM is a type of air pollutant that can cause respiratory problems and other health issues. PM alerts are issued when the concentration of PM in the air reaches unhealthy levels.
- Wildfire Smoke Alerts: During wildfires, smoke can drift for long distances and cause poor air quality. Wildfire smoke alerts are issued to warn people when the air quality is expected to be affected by smoke.
- Heat Advisory Alerts: During periods of high heat, the air quality can also be affected. Heat advisory alerts are issued to warn people of the potential dangers of exposure to high temperatures and poor air quality.
